Virtual Trauma Counselling in
British Columbia

You may understand that something is in the past while still feeling its effects in the present. Trauma can shape how you respond to stress, experience relationships, view yourself, and move through everyday life.

At Renova Restorative Therapy, Lisette Smith, MACP, CCC-Q, provides compassionate virtual trauma counselling for adults throughout British Columbia. Therapy is paced with care and tailored to your needs, helping you move toward greater safety, connection, and restoration.

Trauma does not always look the way people expect

Trauma can develop after a single overwhelming experience, repeated painful experiences, or situations in which you did not receive the safety, support, or care you needed. Sometimes its effects are obvious. Other times, they appear through patterns that are difficult to understand or change.

You may notice:

  • Feeling constantly alert, tense, or unable to fully relax

  • Shutting down, disconnecting, or feeling emotionally numb

  • Replaying painful experiences or conversations

  • Feeling responsible for other people’s emotions

  • Struggling with boundaries, trust, or conflict

  • Experiencing shame, self-doubt, or a persistent sense of not being enough

  • Repeating relationship or family patterns you want to change

  • Feeling affected by the past even when you know you are safe now

These responses are not signs that you are broken. They may be ways your mind and body learned to protect you through experiences that felt unsafe, overwhelming, or deeply painful.

Trauma Therapy for Intergenerational and Relational Wounds

At Renova Restorative Therapy, counselling supports adults who are carrying the effects of childhood trauma, family-of-origin wounds, emotional abuse, difficult relationships, grief, anxiety, and painful patterns that have continued across generations.

Therapy is collaborative, trauma-informed, and paced with care. Depending on your needs, sessions may draw from EMDR therapy, attachment-based, and culturally responsive approaches to help you understand protective patterns, process painful experiences, and build a greater sense of safety and connection.

Christian faith and spirituality can also be integrated into therapy when requested. Faith integration is always collaborative and guided by your beliefs, values, and comfort level.
